Ways of Discipleship

When we’re younger we think about growing a lot. We want to grow taller, stronger, faster or smarter. While there is a time where most of us will stop growing bigger physically (okay, weight might continue to grow), the Bible makes clear that we should never stop growing as disciples of Jesus Christ. What does that look like and how can we keep growing?   We’re beginning a sermon series where we’ll be thinking about growing in Christ.

Ways of Discipleship | Serve: Rest

February 16

We’ve been talking about the joy of serving others. We’ve said that we’re created to do that and find fulfillment in serving others. But we also need to recognize that God not only calls us to serve, He also calls us to rest. If we do this, we might just discover that the better we rest, the better we serve.

Ways of Discipleship | We are Parts and Pieces

February 9

God calls us to serve on our own at times. There is a need we can meet, so we meet it. But often God calls us to serve in community. The Bible teaches us that God created us with different abilities and the Holy Spirit has given us different gifts so that we can and have to work together. We’ll learn more about that this Sunday.

Ways of Discipleship | Secret Service

February 2

One of the ways that we can grow to become more like Jesus is to serve others. Jesus was a servant who gave His life and He invites us to the joy of being servants as well. This Sunday we’ll think about a special kind of service that has a powerful effect in shaping us — secret service.

Ways of Discipleship | Humble Service

January 26

Last week we began our sermon series on service as it relates to our life and journey as a disciple. We learned that God is by nature a servant, thus so should we! But what de- fines a servant? Our text from Paul this morning tells us that a servant is first and foremost humble. This morning, we’ll discuss what it means to be a humble servant.

Ways of Discipleship | Serve

January 19

We all want to have a great life. We were created to have joy. But how do we get there? What does the good life look like? This Suday we’ll see that the Bible gives us a very unusual path to take if we want to find deep joy.

Ways of Discipleship | Praying Together

January 12

One of the things that can get many of us nervous is when we are in a group of Christians and it comes to prayer time. We might be scared about having to pray out loud or about what we’re supposed to be doing while someone else is praying. Praying together is a really good thing for us to do and this Sunday we’ll think about how we can pray together well.

The Ways of Discipleship // Prayer / Listening to God

October 13

We’ve said that prayer is both talking and listening to God. Most of us have an idea of how to talk to God. But how do we listen for God in prayers? Is hearing from God something that is reserved only for a select few or is it something all of us should expect?

The Ways of Discipleship // Prayer 2

October 6

Last week we said that prayer is communication wit God. This morning we’ll take a look at one part of that communication—talking to God. We’ll take a look at some of the ways that we can bring our hearts and lives to God.

The Ways of Discipleship // Prayer 1

September 29

If we want to grow in our relationship with God one of the main things we can do is pray. But that’s not always as easy as it sounds. We know we should pray, but we’re just not sure how to do it. This morning we’ll begin to think about what prayer is and how we can learn to grow in our prayer lives.

Ways of Discipleship

September 22

Last week we saw that if Christ is alive in us, we should be growing and changing—we should be more loving and kind and obedient in our lives. The Holy Spirit should be at work in us. But we also recognized that it doesn’t always feel like we’re growing. This Sunday we’ll identify some of the practices that can help us keep growing in Christ.
